Group C

Group C is represented by a number of members whose genealogies extends to three time periods but have few connecting genealogies. back in time to make a connection. Members of this group are in the R-L21 haplogroup confirmed by SNP test on Kit #33333. They appear to be tied together by unique values in three markers. DYS 391=12 occurs in 5% of the R1b1 population. DYS 576=20 occurs in 4% of the population. DYS 392=14 occurs in 9% of the population. Other markers are also significant.

Group C Summary

Thomas Meek born 1708 and John Meek born 1707 are at least a generation older than the other ancestors. They have been considered sons of Guy Meek born in Anne Arundel Co., MD in past genealogies despite a lack of proof. The source for this information has been proven wrong on other connections to Guy Meek. Because this group appears to have Irish roots rather than English this connection is highly unlikely. We do not have a proven descendant of Guy Meek to compare DNA with. In addition, other supposed descendants of Guy Meek have no less than four different DNA profiles.

Thomas Meek’s descendants are fairly well documented. John Meek’s descendants are less well documented. The relationship between the two men is not known and it should not be assumed that they were brothers. It also cannot be assumed that members who do not have a connecting paper trail to one of these two ancestors descend from either one of them.

Latest results indicate a relationship between the Meek families in Johnson and Greenup Counties in NE Kentucky. This is an interesting connection that needs further research.

It is known through Roger’s DNA test (kit#59362) that at least one branch of the larger Group C family remained in Ireland. Subsequent members of the family that remained in Ireland could have migrated to the U. S. at various times. Unfortunately there is nothing about the Group C results that help define different branches of the family.

All of the members of Group C are related and share a common ancestor at some point in history. Documented connections between members are supported by the matching DNA results.
